18/05/2014 - Bluebells

Just returned from a walk up Roseberry Topping. It's been a really nice week and we thought we'd set off fairly early before it got too hot. It's a lovely walk, the Topping is rather steep but it's certainly worth the effort for the view from the top. There are several footpaths through the woods and we always make sure we go up in May to see the bluebells. This year they are really spectacular. At every turn there was a new swathe ahead of us. There are also large patches of wild garlic, that smell always so evocative. I've been through those woods more times than I can remember right from childhood but never get tired of them.

Then on to Guisborough Forest Walkway just down the road for breakfast in the Visitor Centre cafe....lovely and very reasonable. We didn't walk through the forest this time but that's really nice as well with trails and play areas. There are worksheets that children can take round to encourage them to spot different things. There's also trails for cyclists.

Pottered around at home then planted 2 new trees. A sweet chestnut in the front field, we had one that was eaten by horses but they don't go in there now so we've replaced it. We're having an iron tree guard made so the sheep don't have a go!! Also a lilac near to where we park our cars. We'll be able to see it from our bedroom window and we'll pass it all time to take advantage of it's gorgeous scent.
